Getting the right information is key to finding the correct process as well as the best solution when it comes to remedial design. In this class, Mike and James will describe how quantified site characterization data from a high-density sampling program informs the in situ remediation design process and development of high quality 3D modeling and data visualizations. Together, this approach can lead to better remedial outcomes while also reducing overall project costs.

Mike Mazzarese is the Senior Engineer at AST Environmental. He holds a MS degree in Environmental Engineering from Penn State University. His role as Senior Engineer at AST involves project assessment and design, field implementation oversight, and post project data analysis. Mike has been involved with in-situ remediation for fifteen years, having worked within the remediation compound and environmental consulting community his entire professional career.

James Depa is a geologist and senior project manager at Terracon. He is a 2005 graduate from the University of Illinois with a BS in Geology, including advanced course work in Geographic Information Sciences (GIS). He has more than 15 years of experience in the environmental consulting field and specializes in creating 3D conceptual site models to assess complex sites and design cost-effective remediation solutions. He has modeled high-resolution data on over 125 environmental investigation projects, including several which have been published in the peer-reviewed textbook, “Urban Watersheds – Geology, Contamination, and Sustainable Development." Mr. Depa has also created exhibits for four environmental litigations and provided testimony for his role in creating several animations used as trial exhibits in a multi-million-dollar litigation.
